According to KTAR News, a mother and her 3 year old daughter was rescued off of Piestewa Peak Tuesday afternoon.

The mother was out hiking with her daughter in a backpack, when she accidentally fell, injuring her leg. The three year old had some injuries to her face, but no life threating injuries occurred to both hikers.

Due to the leg injury, they had to be airlifted off of the mountain and taken to the hospital, where it is stated they are in stable condition.

Piestewa Peak Summit Trail is rated as a difficult trail in the Phoenix Mountains and is the 2nd highest summit in the Phoenix area. (Camelback is number 1)

Although, this trail is short being 1.2 miles (one way) hikers will gain 1,200 feet in elevation during this short distance.

Numerous rescue attempts have unfortunately had to be made on Piestewa Peak, including this horrendous video of a hiker who was spinning out of control in the basket while being air lifted off.
