Full Moon this Sunday

This Sunday, after the celebration of Father’s Day has gone down, get the hiking pack out because there will be a full moon that you won’t want to miss.

This month’s full moon is known as the Strawberry Moon. Yum!

According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, this Strawberry Full Moon was named by the Algonquin tribes, living in the east who designated this moon to be the sign to begin harvesting strawberries. Apparently, this is the time they will be most ripe.

Maybe this explains why all are groceries stores are having amazing deals on strawberries right now?!

So gather your berries and head up the mountain to watch this amazing show.

Great hiking trails to see a full moon are Piestewa Peak or Camelback. Although, these likely will be crowded and are considered to be more difficult hiking trails.

If you’re looking to explore the full moon and also meet some new hikers there are a few hiking meetups happening on Sunday, Check out our Things To Do post for details. (It’s towards the bottom)

Or really, any trail that you can get to that faces towards the East, and isn’t blocked will give you a good view.

Usually the moon will be so bright that you might not even need a light to hike with. Although…always bring one with you just in case. You never know if a cloud will block the light or not.

What about you other full moon hikers out there? Any good trails you know of to do on a full moon?

  1. Alright, I’ve received some official word about times. The moon will rise at 7:15, and the sunset will occur at 7:39. So lay back and enjoy the show!
