Extra Water for Summer Hikes

Now that summer is quickly approaching the Valley, bringing extra water on your hike is a smart choice.  Due to the hot and dry temperature, your body can easily become dehydrated. The sweat evaporates off your body, before you even know that you are sweating. For this reason, you need to make sure that you are replacing the water your body is losing when you sweat.

If you plan and know when you will be hiking it’s a good idea to drink a lot of water the day before. This way your body is already fully hydrated when you begin the hike. But if you are not a planner, it’s always best to just drink water before your actual hike.

During the hike, it’s also important to take sips of water every so often, even if you are not feeling thirsty.  Because once you actually feel thirsty, then you are already showing the first sign of dehydration.

Even if you are all fully hydrated and feeling good on your hike, it’s still important to just have that extra water as backup. Or you never know, you could run into another hiker in need and you’ll be able to help them out with your water.
